Early Childhood Trauma: Breakthrough Memory & Identity

My sessions with Kathleen have been transformative. I’d had moderate success with EMDR therapy to move past early childhood trauma. My first two sessions in the Egg were amazing and calming—my third was mind-boggling.

As a victim of early childhood abuse, I’ve struggled to identify who ‘I’ am. I know how others see me, and that I’m loved as I am, but who is ‘I’? I have very few childhood memories, so answers have been scarce.

In my third session, I unlocked and experienced a memory from when I was about three or four: crawling up the back stairs of my grandparents’ home; sun on my skin; the rough edges of the steps under my knees; the smell of garlic, onions, potatoes, and dirt; and a feeling of perfect, unadulterated love.

This helped me connect to a me that existed before the abuse and eased the identity crisis I was experiencing.

I don’t know if I’ll ever have such a vivid experience again, but I’ll continue this work. As an atheist who was mystified by EMDR, I was open to the Egg—and I’ve been rewarded.”
